Interview with Sergei Rumyantsev

Moscow Poly continues the series of interviews with “PIK” award winners.

Today we had a chat with Sergei S. Rumyantsev, the coach of Moscow Poly powerlifting team and of student`s sports club. Our powerlifting team won in the nomination “The best sports team”.

Sergei told us about preparation for the competition, goals and main rules of powerlifting athletes.

How did the team decide to take part in the competition?

Everything started with the post on Instagramm. Our students saw it and mentioned the award to others during a training session. In the end we all decided to apply to the nomination “The best sports team”.

How do you sportsmen prepare for competitions, contests and tournaments?

Our sportsmen set goals for themselves: for example, to lift 125 kilos on a bench press during a competition, to get in a sports category or fulfill the CMS requirements this year and then they choose a tournament and start the preparation. One of the most important moments is to attend all training sessions. According to the sportsman level he can have 4-6 sessions per week: improvement of the technique, change of personal weight and preparation for the maximum weights lifting and after that he is ready to participate.

What was the most important competition of your team (or its separate members)?

The most important competition was the World Championship, as the strongest sportsmen from all over the world participate in it. However, we have a serious preparation before every competition.

What are the main 3 rules of a powerlifting athlete?

1-    Don`t be afraid of difficulties;

2-    Listen to your coach;

3-    Set the goals and achieve them.

Can anyone be successful in powerlifting?

Sure, why not?

The key to success is the desire to develop in this field and never give up.
