Graduate Student of Moscow Polytechnic Anton Gubin Tells about his Research Activity

Anton Gubin is a post-graduate student at Moscow Polytechnic University majoring in Materials Science. In 2019, the young scientist won a grant from the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR).

Anton recalls the beginning of his scientific activity as follows: "My first steps as a naturalist and experience of participating in scientific conferences date back to school. I remember it was like this: knowing that the next conference was going to be held, I asked my father to help me to choose and prepare laboratory experience from the textbooks of his school years. Literature was a very different kind then."

At the beginning of the scientific path, the post-graduate student determines the visibility of his own work as a beneficial feature. "In my opinion, visibility is the element that should distinguish my report from other ones. And it worked, I remember that I presented my project in the final stage of competition at the level of the city of Novosibirsk."

Also, the graduate student notes that the main thing is interest in the specialty and love for what you do, even if everything is not easy to learn: "Conscious work in the laboratory, setting up and conducting an experiment, followed by processing and interpretation of data gave me the desired feeling - interest. By the end of my training, I came to the point that I like and want to do work in my specialty, and it doesn't matter that I had low scores for a long time. It just means that I wasn’t ripe."

Anton came to graduate school at Moscow Polytechnic University consciously, having working experience in various laboratories and research centers. "I tried different jobs, a lot of working specialties, but all this was something very far from me and, in general, it did not allow me to realize myself fully. Finally, in 2015, I get to the laboratory of carbon fiber and organists of All-Russian Institute Of Aviation Materials, where I am currently working. The idea to enroll in the postgraduate course of Moscow Polytechnic University at the Department of Materials Science occurred to me due to my colleagues in the laboratory, " the graduate student tells.

And now in the 3rd year of postgraduate studies he is implementing a grant project under the scientific guidance of V. V. Ovchinnikov. Anton shares his plans: "In our project my academic adviser and I are aimed to give recommendations on technological welding modes for obtaining higher-strength and high-quality welded joints. The technology has been developing since the 90s, but its widespread application in the industry has started recently. The advantageous difference between the enterprise standard today is the high level of automation of the process."

The graduate student must have many experiments, testing of results, presentations before he implements the project. We wish him success and new scientific achievements!
